Dilmi Herath

Dilmi Herath is a current PhD student under the supervision of Associate Professor Dorrit Jacob in Earth and Planetary Science department, Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Geology and a Master's degree in Earth Sciences from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.

Her research aims to identify freshwater bivalve shells as paleo-proxy archives and usefulness of these as environmental and climatic recorders in the Southern Hemisphere. Some of the questions in her project concern whether global climate systems can be seen to have an effect on the bivalve growth, how the record from the bivalve shells compares with published dendrochronology results (and potentially other environmental records) in the area and whether trace elements in these bivalve shells are reliable recorders of environmental conditions at different localities.
