Patrick Smith is a current PhD student under the supervision of Associate Professor Glenn Brock (Macquarie University) and Associate Professor John Paterson (University of New England). He holds a bachelor of advanced science in biology from the University of Western Sydney (UWS) and an Honours degree in palaeontology from Macquarie University.
Patrick's research interests are mainly focused on trilobites and other invertebrate faunas from Australia. His current study involves the richly fossiliferous and hydrocarbon-bearing sedimentary rocks of the Pertaoorrta Group in the Amadeus Basin, Northern Territory, Australia. These rocks provide a unique opportunity to develop a high resolution biostratigraphy (especially during Cambrian Series 2 and 3) and aid petroleum exploration by correlating important source and reservoir rocks within the basin.
